Sprint Google Nexus S 4G Reviews
CNET: “From the outside, Sprint’s Nexus S is largely the same as its T-Mobile counterpart. It has the same sleek profile and shiny, polished exterior, and a 4-inch “Contour” Super AMOLED display. Inside you’ll see mostly the same goodies, though the handset will feature Sprint’s Google Voice integration that the carrier announced today. The Gingerbread OS is stock Android for purists, though we’re hoping Sprint doesn’t add anything later like Sprint ID.”
Slashgear: “The Sprint Nexus S 4G has been made official this morning, the first Android 2.3 Gingerbread smartphone with 4G WiMAX support, and the first to bring the new Integrated Google Voice Experience to Sprint Android devices.”
PCworld: “Sprint’s version of the Nexus S will come with Android 2.3 preinstalled, with no manufacturer customizations to the OS (vanilla), which in theory should make upgrading the OS a quick and simple affair. Sprint also enabled Google Voice capabilities on the Nexus S 4G, allowing for up to six devices to be managed via one single Sprint phone number.”
ZDNET: “The Google Nexus S 4G from Sprint is a Samsung device with all of the same features as the current Nexus S that runs on T-Mobile’s network. I would buy a Nexus S 4G in a second if it came with HSPA+ on T-Mobile rather than WiMAX on Sprint. ”
Mobileburn: “In truth, there is no obvious difference between the two devices when it comes to design or visible hardware. The two phones use the same display, same rear cover, and same hardware buttons. The only differences can be viewed when you get to the lock screen, where it shows “Sprint”, and when you look at some of the status screens that show the phone to be connected to a CDMA network.”
PCmag: “Geeks and developers like “stock Android” for a bunch of reasons. Stock Android phones get new versions of Android first, because they don’t have to spend months getting manufacturer overlays reprogrammed. They’re easily hackable, and developers like them because they interface well with Google’s developer tools. Some people also say Google’s stock experience is more elegant than manufacturer overlays like HTC Sense, but that’s a matter of taste.”
